Craig, over at Ellis Hollow, didn't specifically tag me for his summer music meme, but he did leave things open. Here's the instructions:
"List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re not any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now, shaping your spring. Post these instructions in your blog along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they’re listening to."
I wanted to participate because music is so important to me and because I've discovered some of my most favorite music on meme's just like this one. I enjoyed listening to his choices and discovering some new music. Here's my list of stuff that's speaking to me this summer.
1. Sweet by Jehro
I discovered this a year or so ago when viewing a photographer's website. This song played when you opened the site, and I had to play detective to find out what it was. Once I knew, I downloaded it and it's been one of my favorites ever since. It says summer to me.
2. Our Song by Taylor Swift
I didn't like this song the first time I heard it, but after hearing it a good bit on the radio, it really grew on me. It reminds me of those summer days when I was young. Aaaaahhhhhh, being young. Would I trade where I am today with the me I was at 17? Not a chance. But it's nice to have that young feeling again, and this song delivers. If she's writing and singing songs like this at 15 and 16, I can't wait to hear what she does at 30.
3. Turn Me On by Norah Jones
This is one of the most sultry songs I know of, just right for a steamy summer night. Love me some Norah.
4. Accidentally in Love by Counting Crows
Yeah, I know this was in Shrek 2, but it's still a good-rhythm, get down summer song. And hey, the Shrek movies had some good music!
5. Brown-eyed Girl by Van Morrison
This is another of those take-me-back songs. First time I heard it was summer, and it's always been one of my favorites. Every time I hear it, even in the dead of winter with snow on the ground, the sun comes out and I can feel it on my face. All things are possible and life is good. I apologize for the video - it's the best I could find on YouTube and the audio is fine.
6. Changes in Latitudes by Jimmy Buffett
You could probably insert ANY Jimmy B song here, and it would work. No summer would be complete without Buffett music bringing you the Key West sound and making you long for crystal aquamarine waters, drinks with little umbrellas (keep the umbrella and make mine a margarita on the rocks, with salt) and the quiet motion of a sailboat through water. Aaaahhhhhhh, what a life. Or at least a vacation.
No video - couldn't find one with good audio quality.
7. And finally, Love Shack by The B-52's
The video's not great, but the audio quality is good. This song gets me moving and puts a smile on my face, sort of like summer after a long, dark winter. And it's a song my whole family likes, so I can play it as much as I want to.
Not really any social commentary, but you will find observations and comments on life. You'll also find some good rhythm, which I always like. So, do these songs make me want to work in the garden? Heck, no. But I do love to look over the garden from the screened porch (fan going) while listening to these songs. Cold drink in hand, of course.
I'm not going to tag anyone, Craig did it already. If you want to play along, please do, and post a comment here. I love learning about what everyone's listening to and maybe discovering some new favorites.
