At the last moment, which meant I was already behind, I signed up for Adventures in Scrapbooking: Using Kits with May Flaum at Big Picture Scrapbooking. Unfortunately, registration for the class is now closed. The group is well into week 2 and I'm just getting going with week 1, but I have to say the payoff has already been worth the price of admission.
Because I didn't have the week's featured kit (I won't have any of the featured kits), I made my own. Week 1 had ideas and tips for doing just that. Yesterday, I completed putting the kit together and then I sat down and, in short order, made four meaningful layouts from the kit. It's amazing how freeing it is to have a limited number of choices to work with. It forces you to get creative and can put the zing back into scrapping if you've lost it. While I made sure I didn't peek at any other papers, I did use my scrap drawers for bits of paper and I also dug into my stash for alphabets and a few added embellishments. But the big thing is that in the time it usually takes me to make one or two layouts, I put together a kit and made four. I'm thrilled. I can't wait to dive into week 2.
Here are the LOs.
The interesting thing about the one above is that I didn't even notice the background was Christmas paper until I recorded what papers I'd used. I had selected it and put it in the kit based on color and never even noticed it had snowflakes on it. And that repeating design is poinsettias.
The thing I love about this LO is that it contains photos from a 14 year span, but they all illustrate the point of the layout.
This is a LO I've been wanting to do for a while. Now that Dad is gone, we sure do miss him when we get together and the board comes out. But the rest of the men in the family are keeping the tradition alive.
