Today was a good day in the garden, although the clouds hung around much longer than we thought they would. I was grateful for the cooler temperatures because they kept working pleasant. Today's tally:
Transplanted a Japanese painted fern (Athyrium niponicum 'Pictum') from the front bed to the Azalea Bed and transplanted two little seedlings of yellow flowering Plantus unknownius from the Side Border to the Path Garden.
Planted in the Front Border: 3 Iris sibirica 'Butter and Sugar'.
Planted in the Azalea Bed:
- 6 Impatiens from 4 inch pots
- 3 Heucherella x 'Rosalie'
- 6 Helleborus hybridus 'Carousel' and 'Regal Ruffles'
- 3 Hakonechloa macra 'Aureola'
Planted in the Back Border:
- 3 Brunnera macrophylla 'Jack Frost'
- 3 Impatiens from 4 inch pots
Garden Man scuffled up the front bed on the left side of the house, and it's ready for mulch tomorrow. It doesn't sound like much, but with our heavy clay soil and all the tree roots, each hole is a chore. The only ones that were easy were the Iris in the front border.
And what's on tab for tomorrow?
We have these to plant:
- Cryptomeria
- 2 Lindera benzoin (Northern Spicebush)
- 2 Sarcococca humilis (low growing Sweetbox)
- 3 Aruncus dioicus 'Kneiffii'
I need to sow more kale in the kitchen garden and plant one last little Thyme. We also may plant some of the daylilies or other plants we have in pots into the Swale Garden, but I'm not sure just yet. And we will be mulching, mulching, mulching.
You had a productive day. Sounds like some great stuff went into the ground. Get some rest... it looks like you will be at it again tomorrow.
