Last night, we saw the Cirque du Soleil touring show Corteo. How can words do it justice? It is a magical, ethereal delight, a vision, a dream. And that's just what it's supposed to be - a clown's dream.
The music was beautiful, but I guess we should have expected that. Cirque shows are known for their music. Live music and singers never taking center stage but always setting the stage, evoking the emotion of the scene, weaving a beautiful thread that brings the parts of the show together. You may not notice they are there, they so masterfully blend with the rest of the show, but you sure would notice if they were gone. And if you listen . . . . . . the music could be a show all on its own.
There were humorous scenes to make you laugh, daring feats high above the stage causing your breath to catch in your throat, and whimsical moments to warm your heart and delight. I can't help but smile remembering Valentina, the tiny little person riding a bundle of baloons, as she was bounced from person to person in the audience. While we loved it, it was obvious she was having as much fun as we were. I heard several audience members remark, "I want to do that." I think that's the secret - YOU want to do ALL of it. It's beautiful, it's dangerous, and it's FUN.
We could all use a little more fun. If you EVER get the chance to see a Cirque show, just GO. It's pricey, but oh, so worth it. The La Nouba show at Disney World was the hightlight of our last Disney trip, and to think, we almost didn't go. Did you hear me? It was the HIGHLIGHT of the whole trip, everyone's most favorite thing. Last night might have been even better. If you get a chance, GO. You won't regret it.
